9 Secrets to Being Great

Shirley Picture PuzzlesToday I’m remembering a great: a great grandma, mom, wife (of 50+ years), friend, community leader, youth mentor, bowler, shorthandist, cook … just an all-around great woman.

You know that phrase, “They don’t make them like they used to.” That pretty much sums up Shirley.

ShirleyWeddingWe lost her a year ago today, and I’m been feeling a bit melancholy, I’m not going to lie.

But there wasn’t anything about Shirley that was melancholy. Heck, the day she passed, she went out with friends to see a barber shop quartet and have cocktails. She was 91, mind you.

So, I’m doing my best to direct my energy toward the positive things about Shirley—and there are a lot of them to choose from.

You’re going through an overwhelmingly incredible moment in your life right now. I don’t need to tell you about all the joys a new baby brings. You know all about those. And people love talking to you about those.

What you might not know (and people are less likely to talk about) are the valleys that come with peaks.
